Single Tooth Missing

  • A single dental implant is the easy treatment solution if you are missing one tooth, usually due to an infection or trauma.
  • A single dental implant is created by using a self-supporting, titanium base dental implant placed in the space left by the missing tooth.
  • Attached to the titanium base is an abutment post and crown that has the looks and feel of a natural tooth.

Dental Implants versus Traditional Dental Bridge

With the current advances in dental implant technology, dental implants are now regarded as the normal and most beneficial treatment plan for someone missing several teeth.

  • However, the common treatment done since most dentists are not trained in dental implant procedures is a fixed dental bridge or a removable partial (mini-denture) that are wrapped around healthy teeth using wire clasps.
  • A dental bridge requires that two nearby healthy teeth are filed down so that they can support an artificial tooth bridge – permanently damaging the healthy teeth.
  • Usually what occurs down the line is that the teeth supporting the bridge are damaged enough that they too are lost and a longer bridge is necessary and it lasts for even less time.

Benefits Include:

  • Better quality solution if you are missing a single tooth
  • Remaining healthy teeth are not affected
  • Improved lost tooth root

Although a single dental implant can usually be done in just one day, the ideal single implant procedure is done by waiting 4-6 months after placing the dental implant, and then attaching the crown at that time after the implant has bonded.

Preventing Bone Loss

A missing tooth will lead to bone deterioration over time, whereas the natural tooth root helps to maintain bone density. In order to provide healthy jaw structure, dental implants are fused with the existing bone thereby preventing bone loss.

When you come in for your initial consultation, Dr. B will discuss your specific case with you and decide which treatment plan best suits your needs.

Approximate cost - $4,000 to $6,000 per tooth.
